Happenstance***
A nice blend of interesting films, this past month.
Swedish and Danish - CineManila.
Tunisian - TV 5
British and Italian - Cine Europa.
Wes Craven, Woody Allen and Oliver Stone films.
I rented this from the video store.

I do reckon the title of this post has nothing to do with the content. I just like the way the word sounds. =)

***Happenstance = a chance event.

"Don't change for you, don't change a thing for me" [INXS]
I am still in a somber mood.
Mixed emotions, really.
But the shock has dissipated, a bit.
I was indignant for few days.
Then accepted his harsh reality.
Now, slowly resigned to the fact.
He is still overwhelmed.
He can't make sense of everything.
Ever still doubtful he is capable.
To face a rather daunting task.
One that completely changes his life.
Forever.
The sad irony of it all.
To be saddled with a responsibility.
He NEVER wanted in the first place.
Oh well.
I wish him the best of luck.
And a happy birthday, today!

So.
Life as we know it goes on.
Demi Moore married her Ashton. Woot!
Precious Lara is crowned Miss International 2005. Bravo!
The Amazing Race: Family Edition is on. Yippee!

And, me.
I'm thankful for foreign film festivals.
I can just tune myself out.
I can immerse myself in another culture.
Hear different languages.
Get lost in the heap of subtitles.
Just soak in the beauty of it all.
Tomorrow, this begins its run.
Ole!

10:37pm - the time I fell apart.
My day was pretty good.
We went to the Clam Shell in Intramuros to sample "DAVAO".
A sumptuous dinner at Ping Yang in Malate.
Home just in time to watch this on TV 5.
At 10:37 pm, I go online to check my emails.
I felt faint the moment I saw the subject of his email.
I clicked on it and started reading.
"OH MY GOD!!!"
That phrase kept resounding in my mind.
At some point I actually uttered it out loud.
Midway, my eyes well with tears.
I continue reading. Biting my lower lips.
I start to quiver. Then burst out crying.
Somehow I KNEW it would happen.
But I never expected it, this way.
So I was still hopeful.
I feel like I've been hit by a rummaging train.
My dreams, shattered.
My heart, breaking.
Harsh reality, stinging like a bee.
The strange thing is - it has nothing to do with me, at all.
I can imagine his head spinning.
Him totally freaking out.
I feel so sorry for him.
I didn't know if I should reply back.
I didn't know what to tell him.
But I did email after agonising for an hour.
I don't know if my email made any sense.
BUT I do know this news is devastating me.
It would take me a while to recover from the shock. God, help me!

A couple of memes and a picture
Friday's Feast
Appetizer
Name something someone has done lately that impressed you.
My sister's indefatigable determination to make her current project a success despite the bureaucratic system and the incompetence of the nincompoops she deals with.

Soup
Do you have any relaxing rituals? If so, what are they?
Get hair treatments, soothing massages at spas and go out of town to explore new places.

Salad
If you could spend the winter season somewhere other than your current location, where would you choose to stay?
Well boohoo we don't have winter here. Tough luck because I'm very much a winter person.

Main Course
When was the last time you had dinner out, and what was the name of the restaurant?
Last night, Mini Shabu Shabu at Edsa Shangri-la Mall.

Dessert
If you had a boat, what would you name it?
"D"

Meme # 2
1. Name something you are doing now which you would never had thought possible when you were 16.
The fact that I own my own place, I can sustain myself independently fills me with pride and joy. I'm eternally grateful too.

2. The last totally useless thing you bought:
Every single item I bought serves its purpose. I'm too cheap to buy useless things.

3. A nickname of mine nobody uses any longer:
Laurel

4. A major aim in your life you are still hoping to achieve:
Visit New York, the Pyramids and Istanbul.
Find someone I can grow old with, someone who will seduce me with his mind and someone you will accept me for who I am. Preferably he is just one guy not three different persons. Hehehe

5. The most stupid thing you did as a child:
I jumped out of the window of my kindergarten class because I wanted to go home. And home I went, I walked across a park and knocked at our door, pretended I was sick. My mother was aghast that a teacher didn't accompany me then she found out I escaped. She got really furious!

6. A poster I had in my room (which might even be slightly embarrassing today)
Poster of the group Menudo!

7. Your "biggest" appearance in the media (TV, radio, newspaper)
I was the editor of the school paper during my senior year in high school. Does that count?

8. Associations or Clubs I belonged to as a child:
None

9. Your favorite joke at the moment:
An elephant is drinking out of a river when he spots a turtle asleep on a log. The elephant ambles over and kicks the unsuspecting turtle clear across the river.
"Why did you do that?" asks a passing giraffe.
"Because I recognized it as the same turtle that took a nip out of my trunk 47 years ago."
"Wow, what a memory!" says the giraffe.
"Yes," says the elephant. "Turtle recall."

10. Where do you know the person who tagged you for this from?
I wasn't tagged, I stole it from his blog. :D

A picture
I added 1 more year to my age at Caylabne Bay Resort, last year. My birthday is coming up next month. But it seems this year, I don't have the luxury of time to go on a trip. In fact I realized I haven't traveled out of the country at all this year. Oh well.

Pamper me Thursday
Me: Ok I'm off for some kikay stuff.
K: Kinky stuff? pray do tell like what?
Me: Goodness gracious me, I said kikay not kinky duh!
K: Really? Must have misread ur msg. The pitfalls of driving & texting.
Me: Driving, texting and thinking of kinky stuff - di ba bad yon? tsk tsk

Oh that note, off I went for my protein hair treatment. Long overdue. The last time was in July. Fancy free me would just tie my unruly wavy hair in a ponytail and face the world au naturel.

By nature, I am a fairly patient person. But once I sit my fat behind on a chair at the beauty salon, I get restless.
I people watch. I SMS friends.
I read lifestyle and health magazines.
Did you know:
1) Those who consume moderate amounts of beer have 30 to 40% lower rate of coronary heart disease compared to those who don't drink?
2) That erectile dysfunction often is a sign of cardiovascular problem?
3) That premature ejaculation is 2 minutes or less compared to 7 minutes for the average male?

Alright so # 2 and 3 doesn't really apply to me but hey I had nothing left to read ok? 2 hours later, my hair is flat and straight once again. I was so happy, I gave P200 to the attendant as his tip. Anyone who pulls a muscle in his arms from blow drying my wavy hair deserves every single cent of that 200 pesos.
But silly me just gave away my cab money.
A quick SOS to my sister was in order.
Bribing her with dinner, my treat.
Mini Shabu Shabu at Edsa Shangri-la Mall.
An added expense on my Mastercard.
But euphoria over 'temporary' straight hair.
Now that is priceless! =)

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want, honey.
You can't always get what you want.
You can't always get what you want.
But if you try sometime, yeah,
You just might find you get what you need!

Definitely true, this chorus from a Rolling Stones song. Even though I was rooting for Marty Casey, I'm glad that the band INXS is now complete again! Wooohooo! They are a legendary rock band! I look forward to their new album!

A different kind of tag with images
After answering, google image search the following:
- Get the most interesting picture.
- To save your friends’ pages from mega loading, just get the tag of the thumbnail.
- Right-Click the picture, then get the url of the thumbnail (properties)
- [img src=”url”] then replace the brackets html brackets.
- If you want to see some of the pics in actual size, just get the url from the thumbnail properties.

Outwit, Outplay, Outlast
Yes it's back. Even if the live telecast wasn't shown at 2 pm, probably due to the really bad weather. Survivor: Guatemala got off to a good start.

I made do without my regular Friday night French movie over at TV5. This is more interesting to watch. I caught the primetime show at 8pm on Studio 23. I can't wait for the backstabbing, the alliances and the deceit to get rolling.
Of course, Jeff Probst still rocks!

Farewell sweet Suzie McNeil
Technically, your voice was the best among the final four contenders. Sadly though, you were just not right for the band INXS. But I still totally believe your version of the REM hit "Losing my Religion" was spot on.

Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

Sighs
"There must be an angel
with a smile on her face.
When she thought up
that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you."

Ten on Tuesday
10 Weird Facts About You

1) I put mayonnaise on my hair for 20 minutes every month.
2) I take out the pickles from fast food burgers. I don't eat them.
3) I read the last page of the Time Magazine first.
4) At the cinemas, I only eat popcorn when the trailers are shown. I believe that the popping sound in my ears would prevent me from hearing the dialogue of the movie, clearly.
5) If ever I hear Mass, I don't receive Holy Communion.
6) I cannot stand a ruffled book cover so I put something heavy on it when I'm done reading it for the night.
7) I need total darkness for me to fall asleep. If not I just lie awake on my bed till it is time to get up.
8) I sometimes have really impure thoughts. I won't elaborate!
9) My favorite boy band is/was Westlife but I don't know the names of the band members.
10) I always think that when someone doesn't email/IM/SMS/write me back within 3 days is due to just two reasons.
a. They are in a hospital.
b.They died.
It's weird really but I adhere to that thought process. In this age of advanced technology, prompt communication is essential. So sparing just 3 minutes to merely say "Hi, I got your message, will reply soon" is enough to assuage me. But then I freaking realize I am not very high on their priority list. So tough luck, but that's another issue.
