Monday Music Mambo
1. Song By The First Band You Liked
"Gold" by Spandau Ballet

2. The Song That Makes You Think Of Your Best Friend
"Donna" by Los Lobos from La Bamba soundtrack

3. A Song By The First Band You Saw In Concert
"Bed of Roses". Bon Jovi was the first band I saw in concert. They performed at Sentosa in Singapore. I remember it rained earlier that day so on the night itself it was so humid and muddy. It was if I remember correctly Rock Music Night. I was standing near the huge speakers so my heart was pounding like I drank 12 expressos. But I had a grand time.

4. A Song That Reminds You Of College/School
"Just Got Lucky" from the Bagets Soundtrack. I never saw that movie. They just bombarded us with that song on the radio incessantly.

5. A Song That Makes You Think Of A Boyfriend/Girlfriend (Love) Past Or Present.
"If you're not the one" by Daniel Bedingfield. I sent him a gift on Valentine's Day which I ordered online. Together with a card with a paragraph from the song.
`Cause I miss you, body and soul so strong
that it takes my breath away
And I breathe you into my heart
and pray for the strength to stand today
`Cause I love you, whether it's wrong or right
And though I can't be with you tonight
And know my heart is by your side
Then a few weeks after, I ended the relationship over reasons I still can't comprehend to this day. 3 months later!

7. How many calendars do you have in your house?
2 - one on my computer desk, the other on the wall of my sister's office area
8. Do you clip coupons and use them when doing your grocery shopping? No
9. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Night owl
10. Did you enjoy your weekend?
Yes I ate till I burst to celebrate my everdearest Mommy's birthday
It's 2 a.m
I'm still stuffed as a turkey on thanksgiving day. It seems I did nothing but pig out and sit on my big butt all day. Well come to think of it, I do that EVERYDAY. My excuse - my mother's birthday so gimme a break. No wonder when I tried my old jeans today it was way too tight. I even joked that since we tried a new laundry shop, they shrank my jeans! But who was I kidding?
My age and my waistline are both in their thirties. But I stopped growing vertically when I reached 18. My only consolation is that I don't look my age and it gives me more excuses to go shopping. It's interesting to note that we bought mom a birthday cake at Sugar House and it was I who ended up eating most of it. She blew the candles, took 3 bites then told me to store it in the ref. But after washing all the dishes, clearing up the kitchen, I sat down to watch the ETC channel and gobbled up the cake like it was my last meal.
Oh well. I live to eat or is it I eat to live?

"Where would you be?"
I remember seeing the trailer to "The Day after Tomorrow" and when they asked the above question, I whispered Bangkok! But as fate would have it, I was in Cinema 6 of Power Plant, Rockwell. The thing with disaster movies is it makes me want to pee while watching them. It happened when I watched "The Perfect Storm". This one aside from filling up my UTI prone bladder, it also made me shiver. I try to view a movie without expecting the usual ending in my mind. But it is all so predictable already for me. The hero walking halfway across the US to reach his son, a nobody.believes.you.they.think.you.are.insane premise, the U.S president making a victorious speech on T.V after the disaster and the boy loves girl but is too shy to tell his true feelings. At least Jake Gyllenhaal poured more emotions into his character even though who would believe he is supposed to be only 17 years old in this movie. His acting in "Moonlight Mile" reminded me of Jim Caviezel in "The Thin Red Line". You know, the dreamy spaced out character type. Global warming, the new ICE age and sappy father son reunion aside, I enjoyed it. Unlike the other doomsday flicks, "Armaggedon" and "Independence Day", this phenomenon might really happen some day. Isn't that scary?

Birthday Greetings
In honor of my mother who celebrates her birthday today, I'm posting this email.
Today we will:
  • Hear Mass
  • Treat her for lunch at Dencio's, Rockwell
  • Watch a movie [The Day after Tomorrow]
  • We still haven't decided where to have dinner
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!!!

    WHY I LOVE MY MOM
Mom and Dad were watching TV when Mom said, "I'm tired, and it's getting late. I think I'll go to bed." She went to the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day's lunches. Rinsed out the popcorn bowls, took meat out of the freezer for supper the following evening, checked the cereal box levels, filled the sugar container, put spoons and bowls on the table and started the coffee pot for brewing the next morning. She then put some wet clothes in the dryer, put a load of clothes into the washer, ironed a shirt and secured a loose button. She picked up the game pieces left on the table, put the phone back on the charger and put the telephone book into the drawer. She watered the plants, emptied a wastebasket and hung up a towel to dry. She yawned and stretched and headed for the bedroom. She stopped by the desk and wrote a note to the teacher, counted out some cash for the field trip, and pulled a text book out from hiding under the chair. She signed a birthday card for a friend, addressed and stamped the envelope and wrote a quick note for the grocery store. She put both near her purse. Mom then washed her face with 3 in 1 cleanser, put on her Night solution & age fighting moisturizer, brushed and flossed her teeth and filed her nails. Dad called out, "I thought you were going to bed." "I'm on my way," she said. She put some water into the dog's dish and put the cat outside, then made sure the doors were locked and the patio light was on. She looked in on each of the kids and turned out their bedside lamps and TV's, hung up a shirt, threw some dirty socks into the hamper, and had a brief conversation with the one up still doing homework. In her own room, she set the alarm; laid out clothing for the next day, straightened up the shoe rack. She added three things to her 6 most important things to do list. She said her prayers, and visualized the accomplishment of her goals. About that time, Dad turned off the TV and announced to no one in particular. "I'm going to bed." And he did...without another thought. Anything extraordinary here? Wonder why women live longer...?

'CAUSE WE ARE MADE FOR THE LONG HAUL..... and we can't die sooner, we still have things to do!!!!
Send this to extraordinary women in your lives.
    Then: GO TO BED!

    Yes so ...
  • Fantasia won American Idol. Well that was to be expected right? Although I wanted Diana to win. Fantasia, I believe deserved it. Her voice has more range, she really emotes and feels the songs and she gives a good performance on stage. I just wish she doesn't shriek too much.

  • Now that American Idol and Survivor: All Stars have ended, I'm left with no reality shows to watch. I'm eagerly waiting for this year's run of Amazing Race to begin on July 6.

  • We have received the hotel confirmation for our stay in Singapore in July. But we still have to find decent yet affordable accommodation in Bangkok. That's the only thing that I'm really excited about nowadays. Our vacation! It's my first time to visit Bangkok. Although we lived in Singapore for 3 years, it is always interesting to go there and see its progress.

  • I read about Better Herbs.
They have this product, Better Sleep which:
    1. Can be used to eliminate fatigue symptoms, insomnia, dizziness, tinnitus, and lethargy.
    2. Strengthens weak lumbar and knees.
    3. Improves mental alertness and poor memory.
    4. Improves immunological system, and restores strength after surgery or severe medical conditions (delivery, operation, chemotherapy etc.)
    5. Stabilizes abnormal menstruation, menopausal syndrome, and prevents prostate enlargement.
I'm hoping it would be beneficial for my health. I'm not a pill popping person but I really need to swallow this bitter pill. Pun intended.

  • My computer has been restored to its default settings. The 'problem' has been fixed by none other than yours truly. I'm proud of myself because I'm not really a technical junkie. My solution to things breaking down is to buy a new one. LOL

  • I've also installed most of my softwares except for MIRC. As far back as I can remember, I've always had Mirc. Now I'm not inclined to download it at all. I haven't chatted in ages. This dry spell started sometime in Jan. 2004 after this particular incident. I opened my MSN messenger after being invisible most of the time. This person who I considered a friend messaged me. The usual "hi how have you been? Where have you been hiding?" conversation ensues. Then he asks me "WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU DAPH? YOU USED TO BE FUN. NOW YOU ARE JUST SO DULL AND UTTERLY BORING"!" SO having been said that to my face, I promptly disconnected, uninstalled MSN and don't regret it at all. I guess I need to expound more on this topic, maybe on another post one of these days.
  • Theater Thursday Week 2 - Trilogies
Trilogies have been popular in the movies for years. This week we look at questions based on some famous cinematic triumvarites:
    1) The Back to the Future Trilogy sent Marty McFly 30 years into the future, 30 years into the past (twice!) and 100 years into the past. Which of these time periods would you like to visit in your 1.21 gigawatt-powered DeLorean, and why?
30 years into the future would be interesting to visit. It would give me an idea of what to avoid or change if my life isn't as I expected it to turn out in 30 years time. Oh geez I would be in my 60s by then. Yikes!

    2) The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was, of course, based on a famous trio of novels by JRR Tolkien. What sci-fi/fantasy/genre novels or series would you like to see turned into a Peter-Jackson-directed/George-Lucas-written/Steven-Speilberg-produced trilogy?
I'm not too keen on sci-fi/fantasy/genre novels or series.

    3) Next summer, there will be two complete Star Wars trilogies in the history books. What's your strangest or most interesting Star Wars experience?
My only Star Wars experience is be amused/entertained while watching them. Sci-fi movies are not my cup of tea. But I still watch them though. Maybe just borrow them not on the big screen.

Bonus) While the Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones movies are currently only trilogies, plans are in the works for a fourth movie in both series. What trilogy might've been better served with a fourth movie? Which trilogy would've been better if they had left it at only one movie?
I would like to see a 4th Godfather movie. But that would be far fetched since they are based on novels by Mario Puzo. Since he has passed away I doubt it can be done. Jurassic Park would have been best with only one movie. There is only so much you can do with dinosaurs wreaking havoc on scientists and the general populace in general.

And remember, as the Terminator said in the first part of his famous trilogy, "I'll be back."

    The Thursday Threesome
From the "Summer Plans" Department:::Learning to Ride::
Onesome: Learning-- Hey, what would you like to learn how to do this Summer? Learn to ride a motorcycle (like Sarah)? Learn PHP? Learn how to chill out and vegetate properly?
Learn to be more patient. Oh you meant a hobby? Nothing really.

Twosome: to-- Too? Two? Okay, two things you are positively not going to learn how to do! Ever!
Learn how to drive and learn from my past mistakes.

Threesome: Ride-- Speaking of motorcycles: Do you ride? Did you ever ride? ...or do you just enjoy them? ...or maybe, "No way!"?
I once rode at the back of one and it wasn't pleasant. It messed up my hair and I felt like my contact lenses were going to pop out of my eyes. So thanks for the ride but NO WAY I'm doing that again.

    Monday Madness
This week it's all about blogs! On to the questions...
    1. I started blogging about 6 months ago.
    2. I try to post a new entry in my blog every single days.
    3. I read about other people's blogs on a regular basis.
    4. I change my layout about thrice a year.
    5. I used to chat, and now I blog instead.
    6. I spend more time blogging than doing my job.
    7. I tend to blog (and visit blogs) most in the wee hours of the morning.
    8. The thing I enjoy most about blogging is expressing my thoughts.
    Today
  • I watched "Veronica Guerin" at Greenbelt. The movie is based on the true story of the Irish reporter who was killed for exposing the drug menace in Ireland during the early 90s. Cate Blanchett is one of my favorite actresses. I loved her role in "Bandits". As usual her acting shines through in this film. It is interesting how one woman's tragic death can make a difference.
  • I had lunch at 'Chili's'. First time for me to eat there here in Manila. It is one of my fav restos in the world. So much so that when I went to Dubai, last year for a week, I had all my meals there with different set of people. LOL
  • I had a pleasant SMS conversation with Iyad last night. He always cheers me up. My only wish is that he pulls through his 'crisis'.
  • My mother's birthday is coming up this weekend. For the life of me, I have no idea what to get her. My sister kept asking me for suggestions. But everytime I mentioned a gift, she opposed! Duh! Then why ask me in the first place. Grrr!
  • I reformat my computer. I still have to tinker and fine tune it but I'm really tired today. I hope the 'problem' is fixed now!

    Freaking VIrus!!!
There is something wrong with my computer.
I believe it has been affected by a virus.
It freezes. It hangs then reboots on its own.
F**K! I hate when this happens. It ruins my mood.
I feel like pulling all the hair off my head.
I can't sleep. It frustrates me.
I hate to impose on my sister by using her laptop.
But I check my emails, every 30 minutes.
In case it gets over the quota. No,I'm not popular!
No one send me personal emails anymore.
    I use it for work.
I hope to get it fixed before I go bald.
I hope it stops raining soon.
The idea of carrying a CPU and an umbrella at the same time ain't fun.
They are also converting the parking lot into a warehouse. So now we park at the back of the freaking building. It really sucks big time.

    Wednesday Mind Hump
Let's warm up with a new exercise. Think of a cliche, a favorite saying, a sampling of your favorite lyrics or a snippet from your favorite poem or movie. For instance, "... the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth." Now, hump it up! Here's how the example would translate, " ... the hump, the whole hump and nothing but the hump." The possibilities are endless ... have fun with it! Ready? Hump it up!
There's no bizness like hump bizness!!!
Okay, now that we're all warmed up let's move on to a little Mind Humping fun with "I say ___, you think ___." In response to the following list of words enter the first words, phrase, idea or thought that comes into your ever humpin' mind. Ready? Put on your humping caps.

Your heart is true you're a pal & a confidant.
And if you threw a party,
    invited everyone you knew!
You would see the biggest gift would be from me and the card attached would say
Thank you for being a friend.
"Why kill you now, Prince of Troy, with no one here to see you fall?"
I've been sitting here reading reviews about "TROY". I watched it yesterday at Rockwell.
It wasn't as spectacular as I was expecting it to be. Sure, there were grand battle scenes, a nicely choreographed sword fight between Archilles and Hector. But it seems some of the characters in the movie didn't have any depth. Diane Kruger as Helen, the face that launched a thousand ships isn't ravishing. Brad Pitt's naked body was a pleasant sight but I can't say the same thing for his acting. Please don't remind me of how lame Orlando Bloom was! I actually couldn't stop laughing! Every time, the music came on, my sister and I would go "Ok Black Hawk Down theme". I loved the beautiful costumes though. Varying shades of blue kaftans and their beaded accessories. Very chic. The movie was good enough to endure 2 1/2 hours in a freezing cold theater. If only to feast my eyes on Eric Bana. *Drools*

The truth of the matter is ...
Never go to a mall that has a 3 day sale and expect to come home empty handed. Stick to your resolution: I am saving NOT spending and you end up making excuses. Such as I haven't really bought anything for myself in ages. Or hey the tag said 2 for P199. Excuses ... Excuses ... Excuses.
One stop caught our attention. But the items had a no fitting policy, so my sister was hesitant to buy a particular top she fancied.
Attendant: Is she wearing a loose blouse?
    Me: Yes
Attendant: Is she as 'solid' as you?
Me: I suppose we do have the same 'solid' build.
Attendant: Then no problem it would fit her.

I found that comment funny. 'Solid'. It sounds more hilarious in the vernacular. 'Siksik'. But for want of a good word to translate it into English, all I could think of was 'solid'.
So, I told my sister in French. Something we always do when we don't want others to understand us. There are a lot of other shops here why buy something you can't try? She insists it would fit her. She proceeds to buy it. Guess what? It doesn't fit her. Heck, it doesn't fit me either! We always deceive ourselves into thinking, medium sized garments will fit us when the sad awful truth is ... L is the letter we need to focus on.

Our house in the middle of the street
Earlier today, we went to check up on palmie. My parents' house up in the hills. Yes, we give nicknames to our possessions. LOL Ever since, my father had his mild stroke, my parents have been living with me. I rather he stay close to the city, just in case of a medical emergency. The thing with palmie is that it borders on the extremes. When it is hot, it's like a sauna bath. You would think that the sun specifically chose our rooftop to shine upon! During cooler climates, notice I said cooler since we don't have winter in this country, the house gets an icy chill. Thus, we also call palmie, 'the alps' but that has more to do with the fact that it is on a steep hill rather than the Heidi.yodelling.in.the.snow.Swiss.Alps. But anyways, barely 10 minutes in palmie, I had already sweated half my body weight. I kept telling my parents. Come on, please hurry and get whatever stuff you need. But they took their own sweat, sweet time. They insisted on staying for the week. That they can manage. That Dad was feeling much better. Etc. I refused. Sure palmie is home but palmie in this heat is a furnace. End of discussion.

    Funny thing
In this country, if you lost in the elections it's because you were cheated. No one wins fair and square! Certain people cannot accept the truth so they threaten to stage another Edsa people power revolt. Is this how we choose our leaders now? Through Edsa? Then why the heck did we bother voting in the first place?
If only certain candidates had just backed off from the presidential race and unified their forces with GMA. They could have beaten FPJ hands down! But I guess that's democracy for you.

But most important, he is going to try and get on top of you to have his way with you. You are going to like that, but don't let him do that. It will disgrace the family."

    Mother's Day
    Nothing special really.
Since it falls on a Sunday.
It's our usual Mass & Lunch out day.
If it fell on an ordinary day.
We wouldn't have celebrated it at all.
Birthdays are the big events with this family.
But we did give her a gift.
A pair of really colorful socks.
    SMS of the day
    Me: Happy Mother's Day!
Donna: Hi Sis! Tks for the msg, I didn't know it was mother's day lol that's what happens when I live in a muslim country - they don't celebrate anything LOL
    A bloody draw
As I was writing this blog.
My sister and father are downstairs.
Watching Pacquiao vs. Marquez boxing match.
Well, the replay with TONS of commercials.
I'm not a big fan of the sport.
I'm squirmish and I don't get it at all.
    Punching each other senselessly.
Anyways, so it ended with a draw.
    Supposedly a somewhat controversial decision.
For me, at least he didn't lose the match.
    And he retains his title.
He still did the country proud.
Win or lose. Or in this case - a draw.

    And then there were four
    On Survivor: All Stars:
  • Rob - One lucky bastard who wins a car, gets the girl and just might win a million bucks!

  • Amber - Her nice girl next door image has captured Boston Rob's attention, playing along with his conniving nature. And she also get her own car, geeez!

  • Jenna - I'm gunning for her now. Even though she irritates me. I rather she get the title of Sole Survivor, it looks like she needs the money.

  • Rupert - I never liked this guy. He likes to portray himself as the underdog. The one who gets picked on all the time. Yeah well, grow up this isn't high school anymore.

  • It should be an interesting final tribal council with most of the jurors believing Rob screwed them big time. I hope sparks will fly all over.
    On American Idol
  • Fantasia Barrino - she shrieks and gives all the songs a gospel feel to them. But she does have a strong stage presence and can get the audience in on her performance.

  • Jasmine Trias - I believe she is still too young and needs more experience voice wise, as well as in life in general. I should be nationalistic and support her but I don't. LOL

  • Diana DeGarmo - I like her voice, it has timber but just like Jasmine she is still too young to get away with singing 'mature' songs.

  • La Toya London - I believe she will win this contest. She has class, her voice range is suitable for any songs and she carries herself well. Confidence exuding in all her performances.

  • I'm a bit saddened by the fact that George Huff was eliminated. But he didn't really have what it takes to be an American Idol. Even if his voice is good, its limits him to perform just certain type of songs.
New viewing fare for the ME, a couch potato!!!

    Is She The One?
Will Filipinos vote for their brainy but aloof President -- or anoint a popular movie star who offers nothing less than salvation?

    by Anthony Spaeth, Manila.

I finally got my voters I.D. last Tuesday. As expected, there was a glitch. My sister's I.D. wasn't available yet. Quite strange, since we all registered together. I asked when and where I will be able to get hers. They told me CHECK after the elections. That she can still vote, she just needs to bring the registration form. You think I will be foolish enough to return there after the elections with no available parking space, waiting in the heat, sweating? All that for what? A pathetic piece of paper which seems like the printer ran out of ink! I had this notion, the new voter's I.D would be like a credit card complete with picture. Boy! Was I disappointed and in for a rude shock. Talk about dampening our spirits, we were all excited to vote because the last time we exercised our right to suffrage was 1986.
Oh well as they say ... Only in the Philippines!

    Merry Month of May
  • May 9 is Mother's Day!
  • May 10, this country will elect its leaders. I know my vote won't make any difference. But it will still be cast.

  • I haven't watched any movies lately because nothing worth watching. I'm waiting for "Troy" which will premiere on May 13.

  • I did watch "Secret Window" last night. It was a fairly ok pirated VCD copy. The moment I saw it was based on a Stephen King book, I froze. I don't like horror movies. But it was a thriller with Johnny Depp was in it so I endured the lousy plot.

  • May 19 is my friend Pinky's birthday.

  • May 30, my dearest mom will be the same age as my dad. But only for a few months.

  • I don't like to think about the fact that we were supposed to go to Bangkok & Singapore to celebrate mom's birthday. But naturally we can't make it. Dad isn't strong enough to travel.

  • Now we can't complain about this freaking balmy weather. It is expected during this time of the year. I'll just complain about my electricity bill.

  • New season of NYPD Blue, Six Feet Under & The Practice.

  • I downloaded this lovely song by Christian Bautista. I have no idea who he is. I just heard it on the radio.

  • No one ever saw me like you do
All the things that I could add up to
I never knew just what a smile was worth
    But your eyes say everything
    without a single word
Coz there's something in the way you look at me
It's as if my heart knows you're the missing piece
    You make me believe that
there's nothing in this world I can't be
I never know what you see
But there's something in the way you look at me
