Quote of the day

Let me enumerate why:
1. I put mayonnaise on my hair. Then fell asleep while reading without a shower cap on. So now my pillow smells like a cucumber sandwich.

2. I go to throw the trash at the chute located at the end of the corridor. I come back and realize I've forgotten my keys.

3. I cut myself shaving down under. No idea why I thought of shaving it in the first place.

4. At 4 a.m heavily intoxicated from 5 San Mig light, I SMS my immediate ex. Knowing fully well he would be asleep by then. Then I get really upset when he doesn't reply.

5. Lastly, I finally finished reading this book at 6:30 a.m. Go to my sister's bedroom to wake her up so she can clarify "Did Von Holden die or is he still alive?"!

Yes I'm certifiably nuts!

TV Tuesday
Week 25 - Favorite Channels
It's true that humans are creature of habit and we've all got our favorite shows, celebs, movies, etc, so this week we're going to examine your favorite channels! :)

1. It's off to an easy start, what's your favorite channel?
AXN

2. What shows are on your favorite channel?
CSI, CSI:Miami, Amazing Race

3. Does your favorite channel change often or are you a loyal watcher?
My other favorite channels include ETC, Star World, Studio 23 & HBO.

~Bonus~ How much of a creature of habit are you? Do you have a daily or weekly viewing schedule? Is your TV or Cable programmed to switch channels even if you're not there? LOL
I am a certified couch potato queen with a daily viewing schedule. So I never run out of things to watch on any given day of the week. When there is nothing to watch, there is always CNN which fascinates me. Even if it is just the weather report.

The APPLE of her eyes

I was flipping channels last night and caught Oprah Primetime on Star World.
She was interviewing Gwyneth Palthrow and was later joined by Jude Law. They both have a new movie showing "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow". Sort of a 40's comic book type story.
I can't believe she can look that great after giving birth to a baby girl, she and her husband Chris Martin (Coldplay's lead vocalist) named APPLE.
Isn't that so cute?
Anyhow, there were a couple of quotes uttered during the interview which had my tears flowing down my face.
Yes I'm a tad bit emotional these days. So just indulge me.
Blythe Danner, her mother and a very talented actress herself said:
"When I first saw Gwyneth with the baby, my firstborn holding her firstborn, there was an overwhelming feeling of joy 'deep, deep, deep joy' because it happened not long after Bruce died and we were all still reeling from that. I think the first thing I thought was, "There is a reason to live "I have a grandchild." And I think that put it all in perspective and it was very good for all of us after the initial shock of Bruce not being there. One sees the future in one's grandchild..."
Gwyneth also recounted a fond memory of her late father. The esteemed director of several TV shows, Bruce Palthrow. When she was 10 years old, he took her to Paris, France. They stayed at the Ritz. She remembers ordering French Fries and going to the different museums.
A great father - daughter bonding moment.
After they returned from Paris, he said:
"Do you know why I took you to Paris?
I wanted your first time in Paris to be with a man who will love you forever no matter what happens!"

Awwww.

Mindless fun
Friday and Saturday I had the house to myself.
My sister was in Laguna on a fam trip with her colleagues from the travel trade industry.
So to occupy myself I decided to park in front of her laptop and log on to Mirc.
One of the questions always asked from total strangers is:
"How come you speak good english?"
Or "I'm amazed that you are very eloquent in English!"
Well DUH!!!???
But by now I've come up with some standard answers:
1. Well we do have universities here, you know!
2. I was educated by a private tutor who coincidentally also happens to teach the Queen of England.
3. I was a child prodigy and I could speak 8 languages by the time I was 5, imagine that!
4. Well thank you but unfortunately I cannot say the same for you.
5. At least I know other languages unlike you! You cannot even talk about other people behind their backs because everyone would understand! How sad.

But more often than not, I really don't know how to respond to such a stupid question.

Speaking of mindless fun, it's time to watch the Buzz and S files.
If only to see what Kris Aquino is wearing! LOL

Quote of the Day!
"Life is all about ass:
you're either covering it up,
laughing it off,
kicking it,
kissing it,
busting it,
trying to get a piece of it,
or behaving like one!"

Reason to smile
I've been down these few days.
Nothing 'inspiring' going on.
It might be the pre-birthday blues.
I encounter them annually.
It hit me early this year.
Usually I get this way October 3 onwards.
Immediately after my sister's birthday.
On the second day of the 10th month.
Without fail, yearly.
It's true really I'm not kidding.
And it happens without the help of PMS.
Because we women always blame good old PMS for everything, don't we?
Oh well.
I'll snap out of it!
I hope.
This made my day.

"What's vertigo?"
***Spoiler alert***
If you haven't seen the final episode of Amazing race, don't read this post.

The 4 teams leave from the Coconut Palace and head off to El Nido Palawan on a chartered plane.
The company owned by A. Soriano manages the flights.
So I'm assuming it is owned by Andres Soriano.
We are treated to a magnificent view of the different islands, the crystal clear waters and the shoreline.
Island hopping to look for the Philippine flag where the clue box is located was funny. Brandon being the parasite that he is just kept relying on Chip to find the right flag.
And when Chip didn't tell him, Brandon got upset. He should have just gotten off the boat himself to check the box. Colin blamed himself and Christie as usual for not buying a travel guide since he had no idea what our flag looks like.
Yeah right blame her for everything that goes wrong why don't you?!
The roadblock stated "If you have vertigo, don't go."
How ignorant can you be if you don't know what vertigo is!!!
Brandon didn't know neither did Linda & Karen! LOL
It was a mighty difficult task to ascend that mountain especially for poor Karen. She was after all the only woman among the remaining teams to perform it.
Eventually it just got so tiring so she slowed down thus Colin finished ahead of her. But she did finish the climb. So I salute her for that. Even though they got eliminated I'm amazed they made it this far. 4th place finish is good enough for two bowling moms who have never traveled out of their own country before.
After the mandatory 12 hours pit stop it was time for the final leg of the race.
They were to make their way from Palawan to the NAIA.
Then catch a flight to Calgary, Canada.
How wicked! Whoa!
From sunny weather they had to wear full skiing outfits to perform some winter Olympics stunts.
As usual Brandon and Nicole always go for both detours.
It's like they need to try both detours before they move on.
From Calgary off to Dallas, Texas.
I just love the look on Colin, Christie, Brandon & Nicole's faces when they learned their pre-booked flight was delayed by 2 hours.
I think Chip & Kim did the right thing by not telling them about the delay. It just proves that no matter how precise you are in booking flights and planning ahead, it all comes down to pure luck.
The editing showed like the race was pretty tight between Chip/Kim and Colin/Christie.
I think it was more like 20 minutes. Just good enough for them to win! I'm glad, for once, the team I was rooting for since the beginning won the race.
Way to go Chip & Kim.
They are genuinely sincere, good hearted individuals who took the time to appreciate the culture and the sights of all the countries they visited.
They deserve the million dollars.

Some things I could blog about
  • The funeral of my uncle which we attended this past Saturday.
  • The reunion of relatives from my father's side of the family in Cavite during said funeral.
  • The Emmy awards.
  • Survivor 9: Vanuatu
  • A disturbing incident I witnessed Sunday while waiting for my take out order of a Napolitana pizza from Nielsen's at Edsa Shangri-la Plaza.
  • Reviews of movies I rented.
  • Write about the strange dream I had last night. Strange because all 5 of my ex bfs were present in the dream! Freaking!!
  • I could just answer some memes.
  • Post some really funny jokes I received in my inbox.
  • The fact that I haven't seen any movies at the cinemas in weeks because I'm too sarcastic to enjoy mushy films like "The Notebook" and "13 going on 30"!
  • Or how it takes forever for my browser to open this blogger window so I can type this post!

  • But the fact that I'm heavily medicated with ponstan for menstrual cramps, zyrtec for my allergies, better sleep for my insomnia makes me too drowsy to spare a few minutes to come up with a coherent post.
Not to mention the fact that my stomach is upset from mixing all these drugs together I practically live in the bathroom.
    Ouch another spasm attack!

    Reality bites
Upon bloghopping I noticed that almost everyone had something to say about the earthquake this morning.
Reading further on they would recall the exact moment where they were during that devastating earthquake of the past decade.
The one which claimed the lives of hundreds of people in Baguio City upon the collapse of the Hyatt hotel.
    Now take this:
Most of the bloggers I read were still in elementary or in high school during that tragic calamity.
I, on the other hand was already in my 4th year of college at UST.
    Geez! I'm old. Hehehe :D
    Breaking News
    Earthquake shakes Metro Manila,
    Luzon area
    Updated 04:11am (Mla time)
    Sept 16, 2004
This story was taken from www.inq7.net

AN EARTHQUAKE shook metropolitan Manila and parts of the main Philippine island of Luzon early Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damages to property.
The quake, which occurred at 3:10 am Thursday and measured 6.2 on the Richter scale at the epicenter recorded at the Manila trench near Balanga, Bataan, was felt strongly across the metropolis and nearby provinces, PHIVOLCS said.

Yes I was still awake when I felt the earth move under my feet!
I had just finished watching CSI: Miami at 2 a.m.
I was in bed reading when I noticed the electric fan was swaying.
    Then some stuff starting rattling.
I panicked and got out of bed to wake up my sister.
We bumped into each other in the hallway on the way to each other's rooms.
It was pretty intense and quite shaky.
Geez times like these, I wish I didn't live on the 12th floor!

    Quotable quotes from TAR 5
For this week's episode which I have already watched 4 times today.
At 10 am, 6 pm, 8 pm and midnight. LOL

Linda: "I feel like spaghetti now"
(after climbing that ladder to Auckland Bridge)

Linda: "I feel like Peter Pan"
(flying in the air back to the boat)

Nicole: "I don't know anything about the Philippines"
Brandon: "I don't either, I just know it's an island"

    Linda: "Welcome to the Philippines"
(while she was squashing a mosquito against the window of the taxi)

Christie: "It's ok, run them over, they are not important"

    Colin: "My ox is broken"

Chip: "God takes care of his idiots, which puts me at the top of the list."
(to Phil at the pit stop)
    Amazing Race 5
I was glued to Studio 23 this morning to catch the Philippine leg of the Amazing Race.
    What can I say?
It wasn't bad. But it wasn't good either.
I'm just glad that nothing untoward happened to the teams while they were here.
It was also a clever idea to make them race outside Manila itself.
In the provinces where there is less traffic and no crowds.
But don't ask me where Malaguena Motors or Victoria is.
According to the website, Malaguena Motors is in Cavite.
So Victoria must be somewhere in that vicinity.
And did you know it was the capital of the duck industry in the Philippines?
    Well I didn't!
Ok so I'm a stranger in my own country. LOL
It was ingenious to make them assemble a jeep and then ride one.
But the plowing of the field was messy.
    What can we expect?
We are after all an agricultural nation.
Coconut Palace being the pit stop added a nice touch to the episode.
And Luli Arroyo as the official 'welcoming party' is ok by me.
I like her having a low profile despite being the daughter of President GMA.
I have no idea who I expected to see standing beside Phil.
    But isn't it ironic?
Chip & Kim use the Yield to slow down Colin & Christie.
But luckily they are not eliminated?
    They should have been eliminated!
They have won all the trips for placing first for numerous times.
    Oh well.
This makes the race more intense and I'm sure it will be worth watching the final leg to the finish line. They are going to Palawan next week so that would make me proud of being a Filipino.
Our beaches are the best feature of our country. Nothing beats that!

    A prayer
    Dear God,
I pray for my friend who works in Baghdad, Iraq.
The fact that I haven't heard from him in 2 weeks is worrisome.
My fear grows as I read about the endless bombings.
The total chaos which rocks that poor devastated nation.
    Please shelter him from harm.
I would also want to pray for the eternal repose of my uncle.
And for the father of my friend, Ruby.
May they rest in peace among the stars.
    Amen.
    My current frame of mind

    Alive by Jennifer Lopez
Time goes slowly now in my life
Fear no more of what I'm not sure
    Searching for your soul
    The strength to stand alone
the power of not knowing and letting go
I guess I've found my way
    it's simple when its right
Feeling lucky just to be here tonight
And happy just be me and be alive.
Love, in and out, of my heart,
And though life can be strange
    I can't be afraid
    Searching for your soul,
    the strength to stand alone,
The power of not knowing and letting go
I guess I've found my way
    It's simple when it's right
Feeling lucky just to be here tonight
And happy just to be me and be alive.

    Holy Moses!
I just heard my first Christmas song on the radio!
You will get a sentimental feeling
    When you hear
    Voices singing let's be jolly
Deck the halls with boughs of holly!

    Rocking around the Christmas tree,
    Have a happy holiday
    Everyone dancing merrily
    In the new old-fashioned way!

    (Brenda Lee)

    Actually it's the second time!
I was first reminded of the Yuletide season when I watched Oprah last week.
    He performed "Frosty the Snowman."
From his album "Harry for the Holidays".
I just might buy the CD.

    Sore
By 6:30 a.m I was already at my parents' house.
Ready to help my mother with her gardening chores.
I volunteered to pick out the weeds.
And make flowers beds for the bright orange santans to be planted.
Just below the front window sill facing the gate.
Sweating profusely from the bright sun.
Armed with rubber gloves, a straw hat and gardening tools.
I squatted, I pulled out the weeds.
I got dirty from the soil and the fertilizers.
But it felt good to feel the rays of the sun on my skin.
The flow of perspiration raging down my back like a river.
By 10 a.m, the task was completed.
I admired my work of 'art'.
    I marveled at my enthusiasm.
My willingness to be active at such an early hour.
I took lot of showers today.
    Ist, before leaving the loft.
    2nd after gardening.
3rd, when I got back to my place around 6 p.m.
Just in time to catch someone online.
    Barely ate anything for dinner.
    Not hungry at all.
    Showered for the 4th time.
    I'm sore.
My body is aching all over.
The last time I was this sore and sweated like a pig is still vividly etched in my memory warehouse.
But that activity didn't involve any gardening tools.
    Whatsoever.

    Geographically Incompatible
Back in the days when I used to chat endlessly, I met all sorts of people through Mirc.
Some of them I've met for real.
    Some have become friends.
Some were just one chat encounters.
Some are mere nicks on my contact lists.
But a few made really good impressions.
    Since I hardly chat nowadays.
I've always wondered what happened to those rare few.
Guys with whom I connected with on all levels.
Physically, spiritually and mentally in tune.
For a few weeks now I've been having dreams of someone I considered my best chat buddy, back then.
It came to a point where I had to use my sister's laptop just so I could connect to Mirc and search for his nick.
    But no suck luck.
    I couldn't find him online.
Not at the usual channels, I had no idea where to find him.
I never added him to any of my IMs since he didn't use any.
A few nights ago, I was downloading these mp3s:
  • "Amazing" by George Michael
  • "Crazy" by Javier
  • "Angels brought me here" by Guy Sebastian (the Australian Idol)

  • I received a message from a nick I wasn't familiar with.
    The usual A.S.L ensues.
    Voila it was him!
    Freaking marvelous.
He's a great guy but we are geographically incompatible.
He lives in Paris while I'm here in jolly old Manila.
So we had/have a platonic relationship.
But I'm so glad I found him again.
Now if only I still had Mirc on my PC.
Or if he had Yahoo Messenger on his PC.
    Things would be much easier.
    I doubt I will re-install Mirc again.
I don't want to get dragged into that pattern again.
    The chatting.24.hours.break.only.for.meals rut.
    Hmmm what a dilemma!

    Reading time

I was complaining last week that I didn't have anything to read after I finished "The Da Vinci Code". It turns out my sister has this box filled with books which she accumulated while she was still working in Singapore. So I just read the above book and it was very exciting, I couldn't put it down. Espionage, CIA secret agents, a thriller which spans from New York, London, Paris to Canada. Just what I like in a book. Now I'm about to start another thriller. A thick one at 692 pages, The Day after Tomorrow by Allan Folsom. No no no the movie about global warming has nothing to do with this book.

    3 years and counting
Today, September 8 marks 3 years that I've been back here in Manila.
I came back filled with apprehensions.
Afraid of what to do with my life.
Afraid that I won't fit in.
Afraid that my friends have changed.
Afraid that I won't be able to readjust.
It's difficult to explain how tedious it is to adapt to your own country of all places.
But at the same time, I was also hopeful to face hurdles with a smile.

    Now after 3 years.
I'm proud to say I've settled amicably well.
    I have my own place.
My sister has her own car.
We both work freelance, from home.
I'm healthy, in short overweight. LOL
My parents are enjoying their retirement.
It's a given that they experience a few health scares now and then.
    They are only human.
I get to travel occasionally to quench my restlessness.

I know at this point in my life I'm content with what I have!
I've long learned to accept certain truths:
  • Yes, I'm not getting any younger but thank God I don't look my age.

  • Yes I'm turning 36 next month but age is just a number.

  • Yes I'm still single but who cares? I certainly don't!

  • Yes I don't have any kids because I'm not maternal.

  • I know I'm blessed, perhaps more so than others.
It is this single thought which sustains me every day as I wake up to see the sunrise from my 12th floor loft.
    I ask myself ... Ain't life grand?
And lately, my answer has been a resounding ... You bet it is!

    Sunday, September 05, 2004

    Full filled day, literally!
I was awoken by SMS messages sent through Yahoo Messenger this morning at around 6:30 a.m.
All because I forgot to set my cellphone in silent mode, last night
No they weren't from my immediate ex.
But for some reason it didn't annoy me.
In fact I was in a rather happy mood.
I sang along to the radio:

"I don't think that you think of me
You're on your own now and
    I'm alone and free
I know that I should get on with my life
But a life lived without you
    could never be right
As long as the stars shine down from the heavens
Long as the rivers run to the sea
I'll never get over you getting over me"

While I made scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Then I decided to treat my sister for lunch.
At Hue, the vibrant flavors of Vietnam, located at Greenbelt 3.
    The ambiance is cozy.
    Their tables are spacious.
The stamping of the double fish logo of the resto and HUE on the brown paper which serves as the table cloth is creative.
Though, I don't like the fact that they don't provide coasters so the drinks made wet glass stains on the paper.
The utensils wrapped in a little brown bag tied with a piece of string is an innovative concept.
Yet they don't provide fabric napkins which you can put on your lap.
Only those paper ones scattered on the table without proper containers.
    A bit tacky!
    We ordered:
  • beef stew soup
  • chili shrimps
  • grilled dried beef with sweet sauce
  • 2 steamed rice

  • The portions are adequate for two persons.
I like the simple, elegant way the food is served.
Food was delicious, I didn't ask for condiments.
So the taste suits my palette.
Afterwards, we headed to Cafe Breton.
    Coffee for her.
    Chilled mango shake for me.
We sat outside so she could smoke.
    And people watch.
After 30 minutes we were inundated by mosquitoes the size of tennis balls. LOL
I was wearing my short denim skirt and I didn't appreciate the fact that my legs had bites the size of a 1 peso coin.
The green house effect of Greenbelt while giving it a nice outdoorsy atmosphere can attract some unwelcome guests. Bugs!
So while it is a.pleasure.to.be.seen place, I certainly don't like being feasted upon by blood suckers.
Not when I'm having a good hair day and I shaved my legs to wear a mini skirt.
Besides I know if I hang out at Greenbelt every single day or even every weekend.
I would turn into humpty dumpty from eating too much.
And my wallet would suffer 'withdrawal' symptoms.

    I remember the boy ...

    "The promises we made
    seemed easier then.
As if we knew our love would never end.
    But seasons change and
    time erases the tears.
As quickly as the rivers disappear.
    So while the song still
    brings that certain glow,
And the words still sing of love I know.
It isn't quite the way it was before,
    I remember the boy.
But I don't remember the feeling.
    I remember the boy.
But I don't remember the feeling anymore"

I'm proud of myself because I know it's a sign that I've moved on.
Today I received a SMS message from my immediate ex and I replied back without bursting into tears.
During the course of our conversation he told me he misses me yet I chose to ignore it.
Despite the fact that Yes I do miss him too, with all my heart.
But it doesn't make me take the first plane out of Manila just to be with him.
I was actually smiling when he started reminiscing about the past.
Unlike before when I would feel really sad and miserable.

    Well.
    Things are complicated.
I rather not go through that whole process again.
    I stood firm.

I guess, it helps that he is miles away.
Because knowing me, I would have just ended up having sex with him.
Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. LOL
But it isn't a good thing either.
Because we all know how sex with an ex feels like.
    Don't we?

    An encrypted post
You know how there are certain things you vow you will never do again?
Not because it is a sin or it doesn't generate fun.
On the contrary it feels absolutely great.
But you stop doing it because it wasn't right.
You felt it simply was not a proper thing to do.
You try your darn best to avoid falling into the trap.
You take precautionary measures to ensure you are not tempted.
    You completely change your lifestyle.

    Months go by.
    You get along just fine.
You don't even give it a single thought.
    Not even in your dreams.
    It fades. You move on.

    But.

    I got weak today.
    I couldn't restrain myself.
    I gave in.

    Several hours later.
I still think it is wrong.
Yes I know it was wrong.

    I hope I'm much stronger.
    From now on.
    I hope I won't succumb yet again.
But that's what I said 7 months ago.
Now look where it got me today.

    But holy cow!
It was such a WOW moment.

    Songs
    I don't have an iPod.
    I have this:
    Samsung Yepp YP E-64 model.

    Posted by Hello

    Yes it's a relic.
One of its earliest models of mp3 players.
I bought it way back in 2000 or was it 1998?
    I don't remember.
Back when it took me 2 hours just to download ONE mp3.
It can only accommodate about 14 songs.
It runs on 2 AAA batteries.
Which last roughly about 5 hours.
But hey I won't trade it for a million $$!
I found my Yepp while sorting through a box of my stuff I brought back here from my parents' place last weekend.
I have yet to find the cable to attach it to my PC.
And it seems the software CD is not compatible with windows XP. LOL
So I just listened to the songs in it.
I fell asleep at 3:30 a.m while Robbie Williams crooned:

"We sat and watched the sun go down,
Picked a star before we lost the moon.
Youth is wasted on the young,
    Before you know it's come
    and gone too soon.
You were there for summer dreaming,
And you gave me what I need.
And I hope you'll find your freedom,
    For eternity, for eternity."

True enough when I woke up at 8:45 a.m. the earphones were still in my ears.
And yes, the batteries are dead. LOL
I'll have to go to the store to buy new ones.
And ransack my place to find the cable.
But mostly, I need to find the drivers online.
So I can upload songs that won't leave stains on my pillow.
From the tears I shed, crying.

    Escargot
I chopped onions, garlic and tomatoes and put them aside.
Next - wash the cauliflower and soak it in cold water for about 3 minutes.
I prepared the McCormick curry and cayenne powder.
Everything was set for me to cook Curry cauliflower.
But look what I found crawling.
Yes ladies and gents that is a snail.
A snail in the cauliflower. YIKES!!!
A first I thought it was a stone. But when I touched it to throw away, it was soft and slimy
    I scream, freaking out.
After calming down, I get my digicam to take its picture. Hehehe
Poking it softly with a chopstick I made it pose for the pictures.
Eventually I had to cook because my tummy was growling.
    The cauliflower ok?
Not the snail which I flushed down the drain of the sink.

    Slimy bugger! Ewwww
    September Morn
    Brand new month.
    Brand new layout as well.
I spent the past 2 days stalking blogskin websites.
I came across several with butterflies.
    Some were too colorful.
    Too complicated to configure.
Or had too much going on the page.
Such as a calendar and tons of links.
I like to keep it simple.
Not too much fuss. Easy to navigate.
This one captured my attention immediately.
Yeah I know ... no butterflies.
    But it's cute, isn't it?
    I also made another blog.
My way of remembering the movies I've watched.
I took me some time to set this one up.
I sorted out pieces of paper scribbled with the titles.
I placed them in a shoe box after I lost my filofax.
I also finished my project. Finally!
Just in time for its deadline.
I do get paid for this one. Hurray :)
So my creative juices have all dried up now.
I'm tired from tweaking endless html codes.
My eyes hurt. My back is killing me.
My mind is a total blank.
    I'm exhausted.
    I crave junk food.
I can finally sleep without worrying about scripts and codes.
